County Commission

The Iron County Commission is the governing body of Iron County, Missouri.

About the County Commission

Iron County has three Commissioners, as do all third-class counties in Missouri. Each Commissioner serves a four-year term. Elections are staggered every two years: District Commissioners are elected during Presidential election years; the Presiding Commissioner is elected in the off-cycle. The Presiding Commissioner is elected county-wide.

Commission Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and repair of approximately 250 miles of roadways and bridges
  • Establishes County policy
  • Approves and adopts the annual budget for all County operations
  • Responsible for all County-owned property including the Courthouse, Justice Center, administrative offices, all County-owned buildings, County vehicles and equipment

County Townships

Iron County has 6 townships: Dent, Kaolin, Iron, Arcadia, Liberty, and Union. The county is divided into two districts — Southern District and Western District — based on population, divided as equally as possible.
